Americans, car crash, pedestrians
Something is bothering me about when you see people get hit by cars in American movie and tv shows.
Its been bothering me for a while too. See someone steps into the road all of a sudden and then from off screen a car ploughs into them doing 90.
Yeah ok I can buy this someone steps into the road all of a sudden how can you avoid them. Except its never that simple. What bothers me is that its always on a straight stretch of road and there is always at least a five second delay between the person stepping into the road and the car hitting them. So they are far away right?
How is it that the drivers never fucking see them. Even if there were not enough time to break and stop there is surely more than enough time to swerve out of the way.
Anyway, just something that has been bugging me.

1984
So I have started reading 1984, im not really sure what lead me to finally start to read it, but I have always been vaguely aware that I should. Its part of my new thing you see, I got a kindle a few weeks back and so with the added ease of acquiring books combined with (despite what some people may say) the new found ease of reading from a pad instead of an actual book, I thought I would start to read all the books I always wanted to, and even a bunch I didn't know I needed to. This is not going to be so much a review, more just some ramblings. I also plan to start updating the blog again, even if nobody reads it, the simple act of having written what I wanted to write is somehow satisfying.
So 1984 then. Written in 1949 you can't deny it is really in a lot of ways ahead of its time. Take the newspeak as an example. You could argue this is in many ways similar to the internet speak we have adopted. But that's not what I really think about when I read the book. Its the way the government has its claws in every aspect of your personal life. And while 1984 paints a considerably bleaker picture than what we already have, its still scary to think just how much of our lives can be observed without our knowledge.
Will there ever come a day when there will be a camera in everyone's house that can be viewed at any time by persons unknown to us, its hard to imagine it, but there are people out there that listen to your phone calls so perhaps its not as far fetched as we like to think.
In any case, that's not the thing that really bothers me, ok so people watching your life is unthinkably scary, but not being able to hold the hand of a woman you love in plain view, or even in your own home. That really scares the shit out of me. The loss of control, the inability to say and do as your feel fills me with a cold dread, and you have to wonder would we even see it coming. We slowly concede more and more liberties and one day we might wake up and realise they are all gone, and we did nothing to stop it.

Reorganising a DVD collection
I have a lot of DVD's. by most people standards it would be classed as immense and when people see it for the first time I usually get a wow.
Sadly due to space restrictions I have to store it on a shelf which is two DVD's deep and over time it tends to fall into disarray. And so for the second time that I can recall I decided yesterday to reorganise it. A decision while I am glad I did it I ended up regretting and cursing the idea.
As a rough indication of just how many dvds I have, its in the area of 1100 collected over about 10 years. The space I have for this is a 6 story book case 2 DVD's deep 52 standard DVD's across with space horizontally for more.
So how does one go about organising such a collection. Alphabetical? Hell no too normal. Genre? to a degree yes but too vague. So I decided to go with main actor. Mostly.
Oh yeah and one other thing, the whole shelf is in an area of about 1 square metre.
So you start of by emptying the whole lot, and laying out the collection.
The starting to sort them. Way too many to just categorize as you go so I decided first thing to do was split them into TV shows and movies.
Then I sorted out my TV shows into their individual show obviously. The pride of my collection although somewhat regrettable SG-1 collection. Collected every other week via mail until season 10 was due and the company fucked up.
See they are numbered, 1 - 63 except that is only seasons 1 - 9 and season 10 was still showing at this point and so 64 was Atlantis. Now at this point I cancelled the collection and though my reasons may seem slightly petty and maybe they are but when you have a collection like this it should be all the SG-1's then all the Atlantis. Not SG-1 Atlantis SG-1 Atlantis Its just wrong.
Its also the reason that I made them send me one of the DVD's several times as all of the spines make one large picture and one of them near the end is wrong. There is a gap in one of the pictures and I could not seem to make anyone understand how wrong that is.
Anyway getting way way off track and likely no one is still reading this but anyway. Yeah. You know what I can't be arsed. No one is reading anyway.

Zero Punctuation and Yahtzee type things
So I have decided to start putting up the Zero Punctuation back catalogue. Why I hear you ask.
Well two reasons.
1. I really like Yahtzee's early videos, not saying I like them more than the new ones, just seems I used to repeat view them and I don't with the new ones.
2. I'm hoping it will get me more traffic which in turn will motivate me to blog more which in turn will lead to more traffic which in turn will lead me to try and somehow become well known.
So I present you the very first Zero Punctuation to appear on the Escapist, though not the first ZP.

Drunk with power
So my favourite forum to frequent would be the Escapist. But something that has always bugged me about it is the inconsistency between moderator wrath.
I actually remember my very first post got me suspended for a week due to "improper grammar" I mean I am all for keeping things at a certain standard but at a certain point you have to let things go.
Why the rant on this. Well after making this blog I thought why not use the forum I have been a regular poster on for the last three years to get my self a few readers and maybe get my self a little traffic. And a day later after the thread had become stagnant I decided to reawaken it in the hopes of getting some ideas for a topic.
Well you have to admit it kind of worked, I got this idea for a topic Oh yeah and a three day suspension for my troubles. I have contested it, I ok if shamelessly promoting myself is such a big no no you could have locked the thread deleted the link and told me off, hell even put me on probation but no, straight up three day ban.
JinxyKatte is not amused.

Top 5 fight one on one fight scenes. Hollywood Version.
So I might as well start with a nice simple top 5 list. And what better way than top 5 fight scenes.
And I am going to do these in no particular order because well its half one in the morning and putting them in order would take me a lot longer.
You want me to say it?? I can't be fucking arsed, there.
1. Neo vs Agent Smith - Revolutions
I don't care what anyone says I still love all three of the Matrix movies. I remember the wait between the original and reloaded. I remember watching open jawed at the trailer for it and although one could argue that the fight scenes when compared to those of professional martial artists they are just someone not as impressive. Maybe this is true but I don't care.
Neo vs Agent Smith the final confrontation is beyond epic. Just the sound of the music is enough to get you all pumped up. It is awesome.
2. Blade vs Nomak
I love this fight scene. It just feel's so... powerful. Each and every single blow just feel's so impactive. And although Blade does get the living shit beaten out of him, yeah you know he was always going to win.
I think Blade 2 also is massively underrated. Perhaps I over estimate peoples hate of it. but most of the comments I recall of it are people hating the film. And they are all WRONG.
3. John Preston vs Brandt - Equilibrium (second fight)
Ok yes I know you can barely call it a fight. But I think that's just part of its charm. Everyone is expecting this big epic final showdown vs the guy that fought Preston to a draw earlier on. But Preston was beginning to feel then, he had not come to terms with his emotions and also didn't really have anything to fight for.
But as soon as he utters the words "Not without incident" you know everyone who goes against him is properly fucked. And Brandt has the front half of his face removed.
4. Achilles vs Hector
Everyone saw this fight coming from a mile away. I looked forward to it and it did not disappoint. Almost had me believing for a second that there was the possibility of Achilles losing too. Ok so I really knew he could't actually lose it but still.
And its weird too that its almost hard to want either of them to win. There is no real reason to hate either character, I mean Achilles in spite of everything is basically a pretty decent guy, and Hector too.
5. Ethan Hunt vs Sean Ambrose - Mission Impossible 2
Never let it be said that John Woo doesn't know how to make a good fight scene. (I don't know why anyone would say that come to think of it, Just felt like a good opening line)
This scene is so over the top. I mean come on, it starts with two moterbikes colliding in mid air and exploding. I just love the insane amount of punishment Ethan and Sean dish out to each other in this fight scene. Its enough to have killed most men twice over with change to spare. Some people hate it because of this, some people like it in spite of this, I my self love it because of it.
I am aware at this point i h at I seem to have gone very much Hollywood fight scenes. I think I will even change the list title to specifically state this as I kind of think Bruce Lee and Tony Jaa and Jet Li type fights should have their own list.
So there you have it, my list of five of my most favourite fight scenes from Hollywood movies. Feel free to leave comments. In fact I would really like some feedback.
I am also happy to take on idea's for other lists or topics to cover.

Welcome
Well I guess the first thing to do would be to welcome you all to this meaningless mess of a blog that is the Ramblings of JinxyKatte.
The sole purpose of this is just to put down some of my thoughts. And they will be wide ranging. Originally when I decided to make this a few minutes ago I was planning on making a blog dedicated to lists of things. You will get lists of things too, however it will not be the only thing I plan to write.
I intend to talk total bollocks about everything from time travel to music, tv shows and movies and everything in between. Do I hope that a lot of people will read this? Hell yes I do. Do I want millions of people hanging on my every post? Sure why the hell not.
Sadly the most likely outcome will be a hand full of readers and me becoming disillusioned with the whole idea after three posts and then just never bothering with it again. And to think I think of my self as an optimist. Yeah right.
So to all my future fans I welcome you to Ramblings of a JinxyKatte.
